Social Security & The Shutdown

Here is the information I currently have regarding Social Security and the effects of the shutdown. If you are currently receiving Social Security benefits, retirement or disability, your checks WILL NOT be affected by the shutdown. They will continue to come just like before with no interruptions. What’s more if you have a pending disability case it likely will not be affected by the shutdown either. The funding for the Social Security Administration for fiscal year 2019 was approved in September of 2018. For this reason, hearings will continue as well as the processing of claims whether those claims are for disability or retirement. Social Security offices will remain open. This has not been the case in other shutdowns. The reason for the difference is that funding for Social Security is not one of the agencies awaiting approval since it was done in September. If I learn additional information on this I will post it here.
